Apple, as a retailer, sets the bar high with its state-of-the-art, non-traditional formats in select major metropolitan areas. The technology giant recently applied for $1.5 million building permit for a new location in the Germantown area of Memphis.

The Memphis Daily News reports that this new store will be what Apple considers a “next generation” format featuring an upscale design with a granite reinforced panel on the exterior with natural oak tables inside. The store will also feature an interchangeable display that will include living plants at times, TV displays that change as well as  artwork.

“Our project is the next generation of retail store that we’re rolling out, and that’s the design concept that we have – and we’re really excited because this is going to be one of the first, if it’s approved, that we build,” Apple Senior Director of Development Rick Millitello reportedly told the Germantown Design Review Commission.

Apple plans to relocate from its current Memphis store at 7615 W. Farmington Blvd. into the newly renovated store at 2031 West Street, within the Shops of Saddle Creek South.

Millitello told the commission the new retail design is rolling out in some overseas stores this fall, and the Memphis store will be part of the first rollout in the U.S.
